I was so happy to participate in my very first Authors for Indies Day — #AFI2016. It was amazing to put on my name tag that read, “Brooke Carter, Author” and it was equally amazing to talk to other book lovers and work a shift in a real, actual bookstore.
I loved everything about it — the people, the books, the smell of the books, the other authors, and especially the bookstore staff at my favourite indie bookstore in the world: Black Bond Books in Haney Place Mall, Maple Ridge.
I buy a lot of books from this store, and the manager, Shari, has been extremely kind and supportive to me as a local author. They are seriously awesome there, they know a lot about books, and they always go out of their way to help readers find just what they’re looking for.
Fingers crossed that I get invited back again next year. It was so much fun giving out new bookmarks for my forthcoming YA novel!
