Brooke Carter

Brooke Carter is an award-winning author of several books for young people, including the YA fantasy The Stone of Sorrow and the contemporary books Another Miserable Love Song, Learning Seventeen (commended by the Canadian Children’s Book Centre as a Best Book for Teens), Lucky Break, The Unbroken Hearts Club (a CCBC Starred Best Book for Teens), Double or Nothing (a Junior Library Guild Gold Selection), Sulfur Heart and Star Eaters.

Brooke’s first middle grade novel, Ghost Girl, was a Forest of Reading Silver Birch Express Honour Book, was nominated for the 2025 Hackmatack and 2025 Chocolate Lily Awards, made the ALA Rainbow List, was commended by the Canadian Children’s Book Centre as a Best Book for Kids, and was named one of New York Public Library’s Best Books for Kids. A sequel is forthcoming in Fall 2027.

Brooke holds BFA and MFA degrees in Creative Writing from the University of British Columbia, and loves to read, daydream, write, teach, and spend time with family.
